Cardinal First Scholarship (For New Applicants)
This application is for NEW APPLICANTS who wish to be considered for the Cardinal First Scholarship. (If you are seeking to renew your current Cardinal First Scholarship, please contact Julie Carballo. All renewals will be confirmed by and at the discretion of Julie Carballo, Director of First Generation Programs.)
Cardinal First is a program intended to build a sense of community among our first generation students, faculty and staff and also to provide a structured approach aimed at enhancing each student’s academic success, personal development and professional growth.
First-year, first-generation students who complete the Cardinal First program requirements during their first year (2019-20) at North Central College and have a GPA of 2.5+ will be eligible to receive a renewable $1,000 Cardinal First Scholarship for their sophomore year. The Cardinal First Scholarship is renewable for their junior & senior years, provided they continue to participate in North Central’s Cardinal First program.
The Cardinal First Scholarship for 2020-21 is open to current students of North Central College, who meet the following criteria:

- Must be a first-generation college student (For this application, first-generation means, “neither parent having completed a four-year college degree”.)
- Must be a full-time undergraduate student at North Central during 2019-20
- Must be making satisfactory academic progress (GPA 2.0 and above)
Attend and fully participate in the required number of workshops for 2019-20 (as communicated by Director)
Attend a Resume Writing Workshop through Career Development
- Complete the Cardinal First Scholarship application on the Academic Works Website
- A current résumé is required
BEFORE submitting this application, the applicant is requested to ask a faculty or staff member to fill out a three to four questionnaire for the applicant’s Cardinal First Scholarship application. The faculty or staff member does not need to write a letter; instead, the faculty or staff member will receive an email from the system immediately upon submission of the faculty or staff member’s name and email address. The email they will receive will provide a link to a brief questionnaire regarding the applicant’s character and class engagement.
