Shige Masaki ’54 Nagamura Endowed Scholarship

The Shige Nagamura Scholarship is a prestigious award intended to support one, incoming first-year or transfer, F-1 degree-seeking international student from Japan – who has been awarded the International Presidential or International Excellence merit-based scholarship – in pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree from North Central College (NCC).

The Shige Nagamura Scholarship is awarded based on both academic merit and financial need, and is renewable for up to four years, provided that the recipient continues to make satisfactory academic progress, as defined on the NCC Financial Aid Policies webpage, “Financial Aid Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress”: https://www.northcentralcollege.edu/aid-costs/financial-aid-policies.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Incoming first-year or transfer, F-1 degree-seeking international student from Japan, who has been awarded the International Presidential or International Excellence merit-based scholarship.
  • Enrolled, in full-time status, as an undergraduate student (even in their final semester). The scholarship does not cover graduate studies. Priority given to students in the STEM fields.
  • Financial need is a requirement of this scholarship. The student should be in need of financial support in order to attend college.
  • Fall semester start date
  • Must live on-campus

Covered Costs (for up to four years) include:

  • NCC tuition and standard fees (including the new student fee) for the academic year
  • Housing – A double room in Patterson Residence Hall
  • Food – 17 meals per week meal plan
  • Personal Expense Allowance
  • Medical Insurance
  • Books/Class Materials & Tools – In the form of book vouchers on the recipient’s student account each semester.

It is the sincere wish of the donor that, following graduation from North Central College, the recipient attends graduate school in the United States and, following their academic work in the United States, returns to Japan to contribute to Japanese society. Given this, please upload a two-page essay in English (approximately 750 words), elaborating on your academic goals and selected major, and how your North Central College education will impact your contributions to Japanese society upon your return.
