United Methodist Scholarships

This one application covers all private United Methodist Scholarships offered by North Central College. Five of the scholarships listed require membership in the United Methodist Church as well as certification from the applicant’s pastor. The remaining eleven scholarships do not require membership. Please complete the entire application as thoroughly as possible to be considered for all potential opportunities for which you may qualify. Applicants must be full-time, undergraduate students with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Incoming first-year, transfer, and continuing undergraduate students are eligible to apply. Additional qualifications for each scholarship are listed below:

United Methodist Scholarships that REQUIRE MEMBERSHIP in the United Methodist Church and REQUIRE CERTIFICATION from the applicant’s pastor, minister, or priest:

Grace United Methodist Church Scholarship
The Grace United Methodist Church Scholarship is funded by the Grace United Methodist Church and is awarded to Christian students at North Central College, who are full-time, degree-seeking students, who are active in the United Methodist Church, and who are in good standing with the college.

George and Minnie Reamer Scholarship
The George and Minnie Reamer Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to applicants who will have junior or senior status during the upcoming academic year and who fulfill the following considerations. First consideration is to a young person of the Hope United Methodist Church of Flint, Michigan. Second consideration is to any young person preparing for full-time Christian service from the Michigan Annual Conference. Third consideration is to any young person of the United Methodist Church preparing for full-time Christian service.

Edna Schmidt Scholarship
The purpose of the Edna Schmidt Scholarship is to encourage United Methodist students from the Wisconsin Annual Conference to attend North Central College. Eligible applicants must be a member of the United Methodist Church, must have financial need, must be in good academic standing with the college, and must be a full-time student.

Smith-Zehnder Scholarship
The purpose of the Smith-Zehnder Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to North Central College students who meet the following considerations. First consideration will be given to grandchildren of the donor; second consideration will be given to young people of the Mounds Park United Methodist Church of St. Paul, Minnesota; and third consideration will be given to young people of the United Methodist churches in the Twin Cities. Nothing is intended to limit the scholarship to students coming from United Methodist churches located in any other conference.

Tallulah Fisher Williams Scholarship
The Tallulah Fisher Williams Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to eligible applicants from North Central College who meet the following criteria. Eligible applicant must be a member of the United Methodist Church and must be an African-American, Christian student with leadership potential. Priority shall be given to United Methodist students preparing for full-time service in the church and to students whose cumulative GPA is 2.25 or higher.

United Methodist Scholarships that DO NOT REQUIRE Membership in the United Methodist Church and DO NOT REQUIRE Certification:

Church Vocations Grant
The Church Vocations Grant was established to offer financial assistance to first-year students and sophomore students who are entering parish work.

Margo Harlan Scholarship
The purpose of the Margo Harlan Scholarship is to assist students who would be unable to attend or continue their college education due to lack of finances. The intent of the scholarship is to encourage the recipient(s) to sometime during his/her lifetime to extend a helping hand to someone else in a time of need.

John Henry Albrecht Family Scholarship Fund
The John Henry Albrecht Family Scholarship Fund was established to financial assist students attending North Central College who meet the requirement of the scholarship. First consideration will be given to descendants of the Henry C. Albrecht family. Second consideration will be given to young people from the Red Oak United Methodist Church, located in Walnut, Illinois. If no one qualifies under the first two considerations, then qualified young people enrolled at North Central College shall be considered eligible. If selected, the recipient of this scholarship will be required to abstain from tobacco, street drugs, and alcoholic beverages during the time frame they are receiving this scholarship.

Kraus-Boelter Scholarship for Religious Vocations
The Kraus-Boelter Scholarship for Religious Vocations was established to financially assist an undergraduate student who intends to enter the ministry.

Luder Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of the Luder Memorial Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a young person from Michigan who is associated with the United Methodist Church congregations in Michigan. First consideration will be given to young people from Caro or Fairgrove United Methodist Church congregations in Michigan; if no one from these churches is available to award, then second consideration will be given to young people from the district in which the United Methodist Church congregations are located. If no young person from the district is eligible to award, then the scholarship shall be available for any young person from the state of Michigan.

Lowell and Elizabeth Cory Messerschmidt Scholarship
The Lowell and Elizabeth Cory Messerschmidt Scholarship Fund was established to provide financial assistance to eligible students at North Central College who meet the criteria. First consideration shall be given to children of Christian missionaries serving outside the USA and to students who are citizens of foreign countries. (This is not to exclude aid to students who live in and are residents of the United States.) Eligible applicants must not reside in the state of Illinois. If selected, the recipient must be a full-time student at North Central College while receiving the scholarship.

William Piper Scholarship
The William Piper Scholarship was established through gifts from the estate of Agathe Toevs Piper, given in memory of Dr. William Piper. The purpose of this scholarship is to financially assist needy and worthy students preparing for Christian service.

Smiley Memorial Scholarship
The Smiley Memorial Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to a Protestant student who is a highly Christian person, who attends church regularly and who shows great promise of being of service to mankind in his/her future endeavors. Students must rank in the upper half of their class.

Lawrence Stauss Scholarship
The Lawrence Stauss Scholarship was established to give financial assistance a North Central College student who meets the following considerations. First consideration will be given to a qualified young person from the East Side United Methodist Church located at 110th and Ewing Street in Chicago, who is preparing for full-time Christian service; second consideration will be given to any young person from the East Side United Methodist Church of Chicago; and third consideration will be given to any young person preparing for full-time Christian service.

Clarence E. Stein Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of the Clarence E. Stein Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to ministerial students from North Central College.

Wintsch Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of the Wintsch Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a male preparing for the ministry from the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference or to pre-theological students residing in or near the state of New Jersey.

The United Methodist Scholarships are not automatically renewable, but recipients may apply again each year they continue to pursue an undergraduate degree.
