Navistar Emerging Leaders in Engineering Scholarship

Navistar, a leading manufacturer of commercial trucks, buses, defense vehicles and engines, has established a scholarship to benefit underrepresented North Central College students interested in pursuing a bachelor’s degree in engineering. In doing so, Navistar hopes to equip students with the core skills necessary to thrive in the workplace as engineers and help provide the integrated education needed to drive digital transformation in the engineering industry. Navistar will provide $5,000 annual scholarships (for up to four years) to be used for tuition, housing and food, student fees, and books expenses for students who meet the following criteria:

• Must be an incoming first-year student or current first-year or sophomore in good standing
• Full-time student majoring in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering
• Minimum high school GPA of 3.0 for incoming first-year students or undergraduate cumulative GPA of 2.5 for current first-years or sophomores
• Current students must exude a positive influence to the campus community (e.g., involved in a student organization or sport, engaged in community service, serves in a leadership role as a resident assistant, orientation leader, etc.)
• Preference given to underrepresented students based on race, gender, economic status and first-generation status

While financial need is not a prerequisite for this scholarship, preference will be given to students with financial need. Students with financial need are strongly encouraged to apply.

SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS:

1. This scholarship is automatically renewable provided the recipient continues to meet the scholarship criteria and remains in good standing with the engineering program.
2. Scholarship recipients are expected to write a letter of gratitude to the appropriate Navistar representative.
3. Scholarship recipients are expected to participate in a meet-and-greet with Navistar representatives and participate in any other required events.

INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
Scholarship recipients, and other North Central students majoring in engineering, are invited to apply for an internship position at Navistar in the summer after their sophomore or junior year (applications are due in the fall prior to the summer internship). While only US citizens are eligible for an internship at Navistar, students are eligible for the Emerging Leaders scholarship regardless of US citizenship status. Receiving a scholarship award does not guarantee an internship placement.
