Teachers Academy for Mathematics and Science (TAMS) Scholarship

Established in 1990, the Teachers Academy for Mathematics and Science (TAMS) in Chicago addressed the concerns with national math and science teacher preparation, especially within the Chicago Public School (CPS) system. TAMS saw severe issues impacting the most needy/underserved students. Their focus on intensive professional development and services for CPS teachers helped equip educators with the tools needed to work in academically under-performing schools serving students from the poorest of families.

Although TAMS closed its doors in 2021, in the tradition of preparing educators to make an impact in underserved communities, scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 have been established to benefit students interested in teaching in underrepresented communities.
