Jack Shindler Study Abroad Scholarship for FALL SEMESTER
Dr. John “Jack” Shindler, Professor of English, Emeritus has established the Jack Shindler Study Abroad Scholarship – Fall Semester to support the continuing internationalization of North Central College by assisting students of need and merit who wish to continue their education at the College. This scholarship may be used to assist with the cost of airfare to a non-United States destination, reasonable living expenses, and/or tuition costs incurred while studying abroad during the fall semester. Disbursements from this annual scholarship fund will be made in accordance with North Central College’s Investment Policy Statement.
This annual scholarship award shall be made available to one undergraduate student who meets the following criteria:
- Financial need
- Full-time current, continuing North Central Student
- Good academic standing with a minimum cumulative 2.75 Grade Point Average.
- Submit an essay of 500 words (minimum) outlining the reasons why they would like to study abroad.
The Jack Shindler Study Abroad Scholarship will be awarded to one qualifying applicant for the upcoming FALL semester and one qualifying applicant for the upcoming SPRING semester. This application is for students planning to study abroad for the upcoming FALL semester. The application for the spring semester will open in early March.
Please Note: This scholarship is awarded conditionally pending acceptance and participation in the fall semester education abroad program. Should a selected recipient withdraw from the study abroad program, at any point, before or during their education abroad program, then the scholarship will be forfeited and another scholarship recipient will be selected. This scholarship is for the semester awarded and may not be deferred to another semester should the recipient choose to change or delay their participation in a semester long education abroad program.
This scholarship is not automatically renewable.

Should you be selected as a recipient you are required to be accepted in and participate in the education study abroad program. Should you withdraw from the study abroad program, at any point, before or during the education abroad program, then the scholarship will be forfeited and another scholarship recipient will be selected. This scholarship is for the semester awarded and may not be deferred to another semester. By answering "Yes" to the following you are acknowledging these contingencies for receiving this scholarship.
