Dr. Sybil J. Dunbar Scholarship
The Dr. Sybil J. Dunbar Scholarship Endowed Scholarship was created to honor North Central College’s first full-time Black faculty member, Dr. Sybil J. Dunbar. Dr. Dunbar served as Assistant Professor of English from 1990-1996 and made a meaningful impact on the lives of many students during her tenure keeping in touch with several of them after she left the college to return to her home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Dunbar is also an award-winning and widely published poet.
The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial support to one student annually in the amount of $1,000. These funds are to be used for tuition, student fees, room and board, and/or books and other academic materials.
The recipient must meet the following criteria:
- An undergraduate student with junior or senior status,
- In good academic and student conduct standing; and
- With demonstrated financial need.
