Trustee Scholarship

The Trustee Scholarship is a prestigious award intended to support one, incoming first-year, F-1 degree-seeking international student – who has been awarded the International Presidential merit-based scholarship – in pursuing a bachelor’s degree from North Central College (NCC) and have costs* covered by the generosity of the North Central College Trustee Fund. The Trustee Scholarship is awarded based on both academic merit and financial need. It is renewable for up to four years, provided that the recipient continues to make satisfactory academic progress, as defined on the NCC Financial Aid Policies webpage, “Financial Aid Standards of Satisfactory Academic Progress”: https://www.northcentralcollege.edu/aid-costs/financial-aid-policies. The Trustee Scholarship is intended to represent a diverse group of academic majors and geographical locations.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • New, first-year, international student who has been awarded the International Presidential merit-based scholarship
  • Enrolled, in full-time status, as an undergraduate student (even in their final semester)
  • Financial need is a requirement of this scholarship
  • Fall semester start date
  • Must live on campus *

Covered Costs (for up to four years) include:

  • NCC tuition and standard fees (including the new student fee) for the academic year
  • Housing – A double room in Patterson Residence Hall
  • Food – 17 meals per week meal plan
  • Personal Expense Allowance
  • Medical Insurance
  • Books/Class Materials & Tools – In the form of book vouchers on the recipient’s student account each semester.

It is expected that the Trustee Scholarship recipient: Maintains full-time enrollment each semester (including the final semester) in North Central College classes, makes academic progress toward their degree and remains in good standing with the College; Lives in on-campus housing; Attends all required international student orientation sessions and scholarship meetings; Writes a personal “thank you” letter to the Board of Trustees and submits it through the AcademicWorks platform; Has an annual opportunity to meet members of the Board of Trustees; Has an on-campus job (no more than 20 hours per week) during the academic year. It is the expectation that the Trustee recipient obtains on-campus employment no later than the start of the spring semester of their 1st year and maintains on-campus employment throughout their time as a student; Pays their tuition and fees by the semester due date, which is the Friday before the semester begins. The tax withholding is applied after the 100% refund period, and it is the responsibility of the student to pay this in full; A tuition statement is available through Merlin/Self-Service, The first statement will be posted for each semester: Fall: 1st week of July, Spring: Mid-November, Summer: 2nd week of April; Pays Personal Withholding Taxes Each Semester, The U.S. Government considers scholarship funds used for anything other than tuition and fees as income, and therefore taxable. The Trustee scholarship covers a portion of these taxes; however, approximately 14% of personal withholding tax each semester must be paid by the recipient. If costs increase (by selecting a more expensive housing option, buying additional books, choosing the all-access meal plan, etc.), the amount of personal withholding the Trustee recipient is responsible for will also increase. Taxes are filed annually in the U.S. on April 15; Pays for any additional charges outside of what the Trustee scholarship covers – including, but not limited to, Dyson Wellness Center visits, room damage, policy violations, parking fines, late fees, resident housing and meal plan cost differences, etc; Is enrolled in a summer NCC class, has secured an on-campus job, is participating in a campus research opportunity or internship in order to live on-campus over the summer. In addition, the recipient must notify Kimberly Larsson of their summer plans no later than April 1st.
