National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Scholarship Program awards scholarships to students pursuing an eligible training or degree program for a primary care health profession.

In return, scholars commit to providing primary care health services in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs).

How long will I have to serve?
You commit to a minimum of two years (and four years maximum) of full-time service.

You must serve at an NHSC-approved site in a HPSA. The total number of years you serve depends on the number of school years of NHSC Scholarship support you receive. The funding cannot exceed four school years.

What are the benefits of becoming an NHSC scholar?
Service
As a scholar, you will:

  • Join a network of thousands of current and former NHSC clinicians.
  • Provide primary health care services to communities in need.

Payment of educational expenses
We pay for full-time enrollment in an eligible degree or training program.
We will support up to four school years with:

  • Payment of tuition and eligible fees.
  • An annual payment for other reasonable educational costs (PDF – 310 KB).
  • Monthly stipends to assist with living expenses while you are in school.
Note: You will not receive financial support during postgraduate training.

Am I eligible for any other NHSC program?
You may be eligible to apply to the NHSC Loan Repayment Program after you complete your NHSC Scholarship service commitment.
