Alberto Buitrago Spanish Educator Scholarship

North Central College alumnus, Abel Sanchez ’14, created this scholarship in honor of literature professor, Albert Buitrago. Professor Buitrago teaches at the University of Salamanca, Spain, where Mr. Sanchez completed his master’s degree. The Alberto Buitrago Spanish Educator Scholarship is a tribute to Professor Buitrago’s passionate and inspirational work and Mr. Sanchez’s attempt to encourage young people to teach the language that he and Professor Buitrago love so much.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a full-time student pursuing a career as a high school language teacher.

  • First preference will go to graduates of East Aurora High School or West Aurora High School.
  • Second preference will go to a student pursuing a career as a high school language teacher (preferably Spanish).
  • Third preference will go to a student pursuing a career as a high school teacher.

Candidates for the scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  • Full time student
  • Sophomore, junior or senior status in the upcoming fall semester
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Financial need
  • All candidates are required to write a one-page essay detailing why he or she wishes to become a language teacher (preferably Spanish).

This scholarship is not automatically renewable.
